Clare McGurk

Managing Director

Background

As co-founder of Space-4 Consulting, I have 20 years+ experience of leading and consulting on transformational change projects in complex and emergent cultures. I work with individuals, groups and organisations to appreciate, articulate and achieve their strengths and desired outcomes. My early career centred in the NHS; starting out in general management on leaving York University and progressing to HR & OD Director for a large London teaching hospital over a 16 years period. With a real passion for working with individuals to bring about transformation, I moved to a consulting role and have subsequently partnered with a number of sectors including private healthcare, FTSE 50 and charity status organisations, whilst continuing to deliver both major and discreet projects within the NHS.

My business experience is backed up by solid academic and professional credentials with an MSc in People and Organisational Development from Roffey Park (2002) and an MA in Psychological Coaching with the Metanoia Institute (2018), which further deepens my coaching practice and impact on groups and individuals. I am accredited to utilise a number of psychometric tools to support my work and I’m a qualified workplace mediator. I am a curious and experimental learner and I bring this into the conversations I have with clients.

Specialisms

My real strength and passion lie in supporting individuals to gain clarity on understanding and knowing themselves. I enable a space for individuals to focus, reflect and explore themselves through the dynamics and cultures in which they work. Our conversations lead to an increased awareness and appreciation of self and a renewed confidence to generate ideas and options for action. I maximise the intelligence available to individuals by supporting them explore beyond the rationale and experiment with intuitive and somatic knowing. This skill is critical for leaders in developing sound judgement and decision making; and I increasingly use aspects from my yoga practice to support individuals get in touch with their ‘gut feelings’ and to notice the diverse range of feedback they have available to them.

Whether working with trust boards, clinical teams or executives, I use my curiosity and intuitive approach to get to the heart of what’s most important and identifying the sweet spot for making a difference. I have a warm style and give both support and challenge to encourage my clients to develop new ways of thinking and being that have produced real service successes. I am fascinated by the power of conversation in contributing to service transformation. Through either executive coaching, leadership facilitation or top team development, I help clinical leaders and managers identify and update the narratives and stories they focus on to create generative cultures where new shared meanings and change can emerge. My experience enables me to support senior health leaders articulate changes they desire to deliver excellent patient outcomes.

"What is it that inspires people and organisations to make sustainable change? This is the question that drives me to do the work I do and keeps me hooked.”
